I remember my mum, aunt and cousins in the late 40’s dressed in similar crepe-de-chene dusky pink costumes (all made by my aunt who was a tailoress) with lovely suede shoes, looking glam.

When going on a date, I judged people by their shoes, suede to my childs mind indicated ‘fluffy gentle people’ wearing leather shoes were harsher.
